eClinicalWorks launches peer-to-peer network

Ambulatory clinical software company eClinicalWorks announced that it has launched Join the Network, an open means for healthcare providers to access a secure peer-to-peer communications network.

The company said that it is investing $10 million over the next 12 months to enhance and expand the network.

The network enables healthcare providers to connect with other participants regardless of their electronic health record (EHR) system or if the practice is still using paper medical records. The network will allow open, electronic transfer of records by any healthcare provider and will be compatible with Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) Direct standards.

Its 10,000 members are able to send electronic referrals with patient demographic and insurance information; transmit patient records with attachments that include medical summaries, diagnostic test results, and scanned documents; and identify other providers by medical specialty who are located within a member-specified geographic radius, according to eClinicalWorks.
