Artificial intelligence (AI) software developer Qure.ai has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its qXR-BT software for guiding breathing tube placement.
qXR-BT was designed for assessing tube placements on x-ray -- a common procedure with rates for incorrect tube placement estimated at up to 25%, the company said.
The qXT-BT algorithm analyzes tube position, automates measurements, and gives physicians a report on the tube's positional accuracy in under a minute. This enables clinicians to rapidly identify if the tube is properly positioned or whether extra attention is required.
The algorithm is vendor-agnostic and is designed to work on both portable and stationary x-ray machines, the company said. The software is designed to automate the manual measurement process for both endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes, Qure.ai said.
