The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has published a new white paper giving guidance on best practices in digital radiography to ensure patient and radiographer safety and to help patients make informed decisions.
In a statement, the ASRT noted that its first Best Practices in Digital Radiography white paper was released in 2012; this new publication is the third, following a 2019 update. The organization convened a committee in 2024 to update the document from the previous guidance and produce the new white paper.
Topics covered include guidelines for radiation safety, image generation, properly incorporating new technology into workflows, protocols for working with AI, and interactions with patients. In addition, specific recommendations are incorporated that cover considerations for pediatric patients and workplace culture, as well as a section on the history of digital radiography.
