AdvaMed has released a series of state-level policy positions aimed at improving health outcomes.
Called the "Patients First Agenda," the documents include state legislation and health policies that would eliminate steep out-of-pocket costs for physician-recommended breast cancer screening and diagnostics, remove cost-sharing for supplemental lung cancer imaging and diagnostics, increase coverage of biomarker testing, ensure opioid testing in emergency settings, provide Medicaid coverage of seizure detection devices, and reduce barriers to colorectal cancer screening.
“Access to medical technology is critical to improving the well-being of patients, and we will advocate for the policies we developed with patient groups to meet these needs," said AdvaMed president and CEO Scott Whitaker in a company statement. "We look forward to working with our partners and state policymakers to secure adoption of these patient-focused proposals.”
Each policy is a key priority for patient advocacy organizations and professional medical societies such as the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the Alzheimer’s Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians, LUNGevity, Fight Colorectal Cancer, the Epilepsy Foundation of America, and the Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer, AdvaMed said.
