The American College of Radiology (ACR) has updated its ACR Appropriateness Criteria guidelines, which include 216 diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology topics.
The update features five new and eight revised topics.
New topics are as follows:
- Crohn disease, child
- Imaging of facial trauma following primary survey
- Imaging of the axilla
- Newly diagnosed palpable scrotal abnormality
- Osteomyelitis or septic arthritis, child (excluding axial skeleton)
Revised topics are as follows:
- Chronic chest pain, high probability of coronary artery disease
- Dyspnea, suspected cardiac origin
- Imaging after shoulder arthroplasty
- Pelvic floor dysfunction in females
- Post-treatment follow-up and active surveillance of clinically localized renal cell cancer
- Sinonasal disease
- Staging and surveillance of testicular cancer
- Staging of colorectal cancer
The criteria "serve a vital role in helping to ensure that patients receive the necessary, quality care that they expect from their healthcare providers," said Dr. Mark Lockhart, chair of the ACR Committee on Appropriateness Criteria, in a statement released by the college.
