Imaging exec faces life in prison | CIOs and radiology analytics | New Wuebben & Rozy

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

The chief executive of a mobile imaging firm in Maryland faces life in prison after being convicted of healthcare fraud in a scheme that may have led to the deaths of two patients.

Rafael Chikvashvili of Alpha Diagnostics was convicted last week of multiple counts of healthcare fraud by a federal jury in a case in which he was accused of having employees interpret images and sign off on cases -- even though they weren't physicians. Federal authorities believe that at least two patients probably died because their cases weren't interpreted properly.

Chikvashvili now faces sentencing that could put him behind bars for life. Read more about this shocking case by clicking here.

CIOs and radiology analytics

Contributing writer Aine Cryts spoke with radiology informatics experts about the most important things they can learn from a deep dive into radiology data. Analytics is becoming the cornerstone of the value-based healthcare paradigm that's emerging in the U.S., they say.

Radiology is already a data-driven specialty, and analytics can easily be used to measure the performance of imaging personnel, such as by tracking report turnaround time. Read more by clicking here, or visit the section at cio.auntminnie.com.
