The Oncology Systems Group of Siemens Medical Solutions of Concord, CA, has signed an agreement with DxTx of Mountain View, CA, which is building a network of outpatient cancer screening and treatment centers. Siemens will provide its imaging and radiation therapy technology to DxTx, and will also make a "significant" equity position in the firm.
DxTx plans to focus its efforts initially on lung cancer, which is often detected in its late stages and which therefore requires highly invasive treatment options. The company intends to build freestanding centers where patients can be screened to find early-stage disease, then diagnosed, treated, and followed.
DxTx intends to use technologies such as computer-aided diagnosis (CAD), 3-D inverse treatment planning, autosegmentation, and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Siemens will provide DxTx with a range of imaging and therapy products including PET, CT, linear accelerators, and oncology management software.
