E-Z-EM, Berlex expand Ultravist partnership

Virtual colonoscopy and contrast developer E-Z-EM of Lake Success, NY, has expanded its Ultravist co-promotion and marketing deal with Berlex Laboratories, a U.S. subsidiary of Berlin-based Schering.

Under the terms of the agreement, E-Z-EM will adapt its EmpowerCT injector system to permit the use of Ultravist glass pre-filled cartridges (PFC), a new pre-filled syringe cartridge. Concurrently, Berlex will conduct all chemistry, manufacturing, and control activities necessary for securing regulatory approvals for the product in the U.S., the companies said.

The development project is expected to be completed within the next 18-24 months, and costs will be shared by both firms. When the project is completed, Berlex and E-Z-EM will jointly promote the product in the U.S. under the terms of a separate five-year co-promotion agreement.
