Cyrcadia Health expands clinical trial to new site

Cyrcadia Health has expanded its clinical trial for its wearable early breast cancer detection technology to the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center at Ohio State University in Columbus.

The trial, which began in 2015 at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, CA, will continue at both locations to reach enrollment of 173 patients and focus on breast cancer health screening. Researchers are targeting the 70% of the population who undergo biopsies on noncancerous tissue resulting from mammographic referral, as well as mass screening of patients with dense breasts, the company said.

Cyrcadia's wearable, smartphone-enabled iTBra technology uses a data collection device placed under a bra to collect breast cell data over a two- to 12-hour period. The technology measures rhythm-based temperature variances of cell cycles, which the company believes can identify abnormalities at the earliest stages of cellular change over time.

The results collected from the technology are transferred through a smart device to a global cancer library, where advanced analytical analysis occurs. The results are then communicated back to the patient and physician, Cyrcadia said.

Current studies are supported financially by the Canary Foundation.
