Yom named editor in chief of Red Journal

Radiation oncologist Dr. Sue Yom, PhD, has been named editor in chief of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics, also known as the Red Journal, the flagship publication of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).

Yom is vice chair and distinguished professor of radiation oncology, as well as professor of otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She will begin a five-year term as editor in chief on January 1, 2022.

Yom has been a longtime member of the Red Journal's editorial team, and she is currently deputy editor. She developed a structured peer review format for the journal, as well as an option for authors to submit scientific letters and content features. She has authored over 250 published books, chapters, and journal articles.

Yom will take over as editor in chief from Dr. Anthony Zietman, who has held the post since 2012.
