The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) on February 26 confirmed that its 2020 conference will go on as scheduled for April 18 to 23 in Sydney, despite the global coronavirus outbreak.
The ISMRM's board of trustees and executive committee have been following the coronavirus situation closely and made the decision to proceed based on several factors, according to 2019 to 2020 ISMRM President Larry Wald, PhD.
First, the situation in Australia is stable, and "it is fundamentally safe to travel there," Wald said in an open letter to members. Also, Australia does not seem to be planning to broaden its entry restrictions to the country.
"We can only watch and wait hopefully, but I wanted to have a chance to share our thinking with you," Wald said.
