Hampton University in Hampton, VA, has broken ground for the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI).
The 98,000-sq-ft, $190 million facility is scheduled to open in 2011, and will be equipped with technology from radioisotope manufacturer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) of Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
HUPTI is the fourth proton therapy center equipped by IBA in the U.S. Other centers are located at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University Hospital Campus in Boston; the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute at the Indiana University in Bloomington; and the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville.
