WHITIA picks U.S. site for demo project

The nonprofit World Health Imaging, Telemedicine, and Informatics Alliance (WHITIA) of Chicago has picked a medical center in southwestern Chicago as a demonstration project for a new initiative to help urban and rural communities obtain advanced medical imaging technologies.

Alivio Medical Center was selected as the first site in WHITIA's Healthy Communities Initiative; WHITIA will install a digital x-ray system at the location. Alivio is a bilingual, bicultural community health center that serves low-income patients in Chicago's Latino Pilsen and Little Village communities.

The Healthy Communities Initiative aims to help community health centers provide care to underserved communities. The digital x-ray installation at Alivio involved several of WHITIA's partners, including Merge Healthcare of Hartland, WI, and Sedecal of Madrid. The project is being funded by grants from Searle Funds at the Chicago Community Trust and the McCormick Foundation.
