Virtual Radiologic to open Hawaii reading center

Radiologists, polish your résumés -- teleradiology overread service Virtual Radiologic of Minneapolis is opening a central reading center in Hawaii and is hiring physicians to staff it.

The company said it considered international locations, but decided that Hawaii would be the best place for its centralized reading center due to its location in the U.S. Hawaii's time zone also will enable radiologists at the facility to start their midday shift during the evening hours at hospitals and imaging centers in the Midwest and on the East Coast.

Virtual Radiologic's radiologists will now have the choice of working from Hawaii permanently, or from their preferred U.S.-based location, the company said. The Hawaii site will also serve as Virtual Radiologic's conferencing location and training center.
